Currently, the administration is negotiating away immigrant rights rights in order to continue providing military funding for Ukraine and Israel.

Instead, we urge President Biden to make good on it’s promise to:

  • End private detention nationwide;
  • End 287g agreements nationwide; and
  • End mass deportations.

We will also demand the Biden Administration take action to:

  • Decriminalize migration;
  • End cooperation between police and ICE;
  • End cooperation with anti-immigrant state laws and policies (i.e. Abbot’s Operation Lone Star); and
  • Allow those who were deported because of their contact with the criminal legal system to reunite with their loved ones in the U.S.

Why are we taking action?

During the campaign trail in 2020, President Biden promised to take immediate action to address the criminalization and mass deportation of immigrants.  However, 3 years into his presidency, we have not seen any concrete action to address the pain of the immigrant community.

In fact, currently under the Biden Administration we have over 35,000 immigrants in detention centers, more than double compared to Trump’s last year in office. The Biden Administration promised to end private detention centers nationwide, but they have instead sided with prison companies and challenged state laws to prevent detention centers from closing.

Mass deportations continue. Mass surveillance is at its highest. The Administration is even negotiating with Republicans to gut asylum protections, increase ICE/CBP budget, and expand mass deportations in exchange for more military funding for Ukraine and Israel.

Enough is enough. President Biden campaigned on the promise that he would address the large number of deportations and the criminalization crisis affecting the immigrant community, but his policies continue to dehumanize and target them.

This is why the New Way Forward National Campaign is taking action January 22-26, 2024.

As the Biden Administration gets ready for the State of the Union, we will be in the streets demanding immediate action.  Join us!
